Artificial grass pitch helps rugby team’s player development

Thornton Sports has installed a 3G artificial grass sports pitch at Warrington Wolves’ new purpose-built indoor training facility.

The rugby league club’s complex, at the University of Chester’s Warrington Padgate campus, will feature a 1350m² pitch with a surface using Thornton Sports’ in-house UK manufactured ‘Rugby Pro M product’ over a 20mm deep in-situ rubber shockpad layer.

The surface meets the performance requirements of IRB regulation 22, which confirms its suitability for full-contact rugby. Football can also be played on the surface, as confirmed by IATS certification.

Other facilities at the site include a purpose-built gym, coaching and physio rooms, running track and training field. The pitch will primarily be used for training by Warrington Wolves, but the University of Chester and the local community will also have access.
